There are some art pieces that stay with you. For me, it was seeing the time consuming work of San Diego artist Claudia Cano in her woven photography. By weaving the pieces of each image together Claudia creates a third dimension that adds a fascination to her photographs. According to Claudia, it takes her a committed 8-10 hours of cutting and weaving for each photograph to create a visually compelling piece of artwork. I urge you to visit her website for more examples. The three dimensional effect is dimmed on the web, but take my word for it as someone who has seen it in person, if you can appreciate art and an innovative vision, you can appreciate Claudia’s work. Also, these pieces can create a great focal point, especially in your kitchen due to their rich color and culinary themes.
I’m a fan of recycling, helping mother earth, saving the planet– but I have to admit it’s a lot more fun when it adds style to a kitchen. I love these funky, green, recycled glasswares sold by Kimpton Style. If they aren’t really your style, think of your favorite wine lover or tree-hugging friend– they would make a great gift! Plus you get that added bonus of doing something good for the environment and buying with a free conscience.
I had the opportunity Sunday to attend the ArtWalk in San Diego’s Little Italy district, and met some very interesting and talented artists. The artists ranged from metal workers to painters, one with a patent on a very unique frame(great attention grabber)! One of my favorite pieces was a metal, wall mounted wine display. Over the next week Interior Design Musings will be featuring those of these artists whose work can enhance your living space. As we feature artists, please feel free to inquire about commissioning them or requesting more information. If you get the chance to attend this event in the future, it is well worth the trip for an art lover.
